German is the most widely spoken language in Europe. Almost 100 million people speak German as their native language, not only in Germany, but also in Austria and Switzerland. The number of learners of German in Europe is rising and the strong economy and low unemployment in Germany attracts skilled workers. German is the language of philosophy – Hegel, Marx and Nietzsche were German. It is also the language of music.
The course Introduction to German – Intermediate level – will continue to develop the learners’ abilities to understand, read, write, and speak German in typical everyday situations. Skills acquired in German I and II will be reviewed and extended. Students will work with authentic and up-to-date materials to extend their language skills and broaden their cultural knowledge of the German-speaking countries.
