German is the most widely spoken language in Europe. Almost 100 million people speak German as their native language, not only in Germany, but also in Austria and Switzerland. The number of learners of German in Europe is rising and the strong economy and low unemployment in Germany attracts skilled workers. German is the language of philosophy – Hegel, Marx and Nietzsche were German. It is also the language of music.
The course Introduction to German will enable students to speak and understand simple German sentences in a variety of topics. A number of listening exercises and small films will introduce learners into the sound of the German language. While the main focus of the course will lie on listening comprehension and speaking, we will through the study of the German language also look at the culture of the German speaking countries.
