In recent years, the liability of intermediaries has been a subject of discussion in the context of Japanese copyright law. Under the Japanese Copyright Act (JCA), a claim for injunction is permitted against an infringer. However, there is no explicit provision under which a right holder may demand an injunction against a person who contributes to or supports another’s infringement. Such a person is merely liable for damages under the Japanese Civil Code.
