IN RECENT YEARS, the proliferation of Free Trade Agreements (FTA) has become a global trend. In comparison to other regions such as Europe and the Americas, it is true that Asia manifested only nominal interest in
regional economic integration until the recent past. However, in the aftermath of the Asian financial crisis in 1997, North East Asian countries became aware of the need for closer regional economic cooperation.
