This paper addresses some copyright issues of electronic commerce within the construction of the legal framework for the information society and its digital economy. On the one hand, it addresses the issue on circumvention of technological measures used by copyright owners to protect their works, as well as on tampering with copyright management information. On the other hand, it addresses the issue of the liability of online service providers for copyright infringement when engaging in certain activities, such as: 1. transitory communications (“mere conduit”); 2. system caching; 3. storage of information on systems or networks at direction of users (“hosting”); 4. information location tools (“browsing” and “linking”).
