Guia Walkabout

GUIA WALKABOUT

The event is a walkabout that aims at those who wish to know more about Macau’s military history by sharing a unique view into the territory’s multicultural past and promote the discovery of new things about a place where they have been born in or to where they have moved to. The walkabout adopts an interactive approach focused on visitor experience by providing accessory visual resources, such as maps and period photos that can aid visitors in their journey through the chosen location.

The walkabout will go through some places in Guia in a relaxed pace, focusing on Guia hill’s military history and background to better interpret the history of Macau as part of China’s intricate geopolitical maze in the late 19th and early 20th century.

Mr. Ricardo Borges will be leading the Guia Walkabout. A third generation Macanese-born Portuguese, he is the grandson of former military engineering officer, Manuel de Mesquita Borges, who was the last military commanders of the Portuguese military forces in Macau. He initiated his research into Macau’s military history in 2016 and has been actively engaged in furthering his research, continuing to do first-hand interviews with former military personnel and uncovering more information about archival sources important to Macau’s military history.
